Dr. Margaret Busby, OBE, evidently was a success at the Bermuda College last week, when she highlighted its annual lecture series. She is seen here, left front row smiling, while the audience applauded as Dr. Kim Dismont-Robinson (not seen) roundly thanked her at the end of her two-hour concluding public lecture.

She was here at the joint invitation of the College and Government's Community and Cultural Affairs Department. Others in the photo are the Cultural Affairs Minister Dale Butler; Katherine Carr; and director of the Department, Mrs. Heather Whalen.

"We were happy with the turnout and response to the public lectures and writing workshops," Dr. Dismont-Robinson said on behalf of the Cultural Affairs Department, adding, they were not surprised, judging from the number of phone calls and other inquiries that came in when it became known that the distinguished writer, editor, broadcaster, book reviewer would be coming from London.

Dr. Dismont-Robinson noted it was evident that Bermudians have a very strong interest in telling their stories and getting their material widely circulated. And they were given new perspectives by Dr. Busby with her amazing wealth of information and knowledge and experience in starting up her own publishing company, and specifically with her experience with the challenges facing writers from small islands and communities such as Bermuda. She made history when she became Britain's first black woman publisher ¿ and its youngest.
