Breaking News: Thaao gets Senate seat as Premier shuffles pack
Premier Ewart Brown today revealed his new-look Cabinet and Senate - with Neletha Butterfield, Dennis Lister, Michael Scott and Wayne Perinchief all axed.
In a surprise move Hott presenter Thaao Dill has been given a seat in the Senate, with the portfolio of junior minister of culture and social rehabilitation, and Phil Perinchief has lost his job as Attorney General, being replaced by Kim Wilson. Davida Morris has also left the Senate.
Nelson Bascome has been reinstated as Health Minister, despite facing a trial in April for theft, and Dr. Brown has kept the transport and tourism portfolios. Elvin James has been brought in as Minister for the Environment and Sport.
There is no place for House of Assembly newcomer Zane DeSilva, who took David Dodwell's seat. Former Health Minister Patrice Minors, who defeated UBP leader Michael Dunkley in Smith's North, was offered a post but declined. It is not known which post she was offered.
She said: “I can confirm that the Premier has indeed offered me an opportunity to fill a Cabinet post, but despite the honour afforded to me, I have respectfully declined.
“Although the past four years have been fulfilling and rewarding, the challenges I have faced in balancing a growing family and busy career with my public office responsibilities have at times been a struggle. At this time I have decided to focus my efforts on my constituency, my family and my revisited career.
“I have no doubt that I will have the opportunity in the future to serve the Premier in a Cabinet capacity, but for now I am comfortable in serving the people of Bermuda from the back bench.”
