Breaking News: Michael Scott appointed to Cabinet
Michael Scott is taking over as Minister of Energy, Telecommunications and E-Commerce in Premier Ewart Brown’s Cabinet.
Mr. Scott — who was Telecommunications Minister from 2004 to 2006, and Health Minister in 2007 — replaces Terry Lister who was sacked after calling for Dr. Brown to resign on Friday night.
He was unveiled this morning at a press conference at Progressive Labour Party headquarters Alaska Hall.
However, there was no sign of a replacement for former Education Minister Elvin James, who also left Cabinet after urging the Premier to step down.
Dr. Brown said he had asked Health Minister Nelson Bascome to take over that role for the summer — as well as continuing his Health job — before Mr. Bascome’s death this morning.
For the summer, Senator Kim Wilson will combine the Education portfolio with her duties as Attorney General; Minister without Portfolio Walter Roban will act as Health Minister in the short-term.
Many senior backbenchers are said to be so angry with Dr. Brown that they will not return to his Cabinet to serve as Education Minister. Dr. Brown today hinted some could come back into the fold before too long.
