Kyle Hodsoll and Rodney Trott shared eight-wickets between them and senior batsmen Irving Romaine and Glenn Blakeney blasted half-centuries as a Bermuda developmental squad beat an Argentina President’s XI by 12 runs in a gripping contest to clinch the Baimax Cup at the Hurlingham Club in Argentina today.

Led by aggressive knocks of 72 and 70 from the bats of Blakeney and Romaine, the tourists piled up an impressive 281 for eight in their allotted 50 overs and then restricted the Argentines to 269 for nine, according to unconfirmed reports.

St.George’s seamer Hodsoll, returning to the squad from injury, claimed five wickets to carry Bermuda’s attack. And he was ably suported by off-spinner Trott who gathered three respectively.

Hodsoll was the catalyst behind the host country’s top order slide that saw them wobbling at 32 for four before a battling century by New Zealand-born batsman Hamish Barton (151), and a half -century from all-rounder Gary Savage (51), resuscitated Argentine hopes of levelling the best-of-three series.

Together the pair added 150 runs for the fifth-wicket before both fell in the space of 40 runs, with Hodsoll making the breakthrough by removing Savage.

Diego Lord (26) and Esteban MacDermott (19 not out) carried the fight lower down the order. But in the end it wasn’t enough as the hosts eventually came up short.

Earlier, PHC and St.George’s Cup Match batsman Fiqre Crockwell (34) dominated a 64-run opening stand with Chris Douglas (24) before the tourists slumped from 71 for two to 167 for five as the Argentines, led by a three-wicket haul from seamer Lord, clawed their way back.

However, half-centuries from Blakeney and Romaine and useful knocks from all-rounders Trott (28) and Justin Pitcher (14) down the order gave the tourists' attack just enough runs to work with.

Bermuda’s developmental squad close out their tour of Argentina tomorrow with a 50 overs match against their hosts at the Belgrano Athletic Club in Buenos Aires before returning home Monday.
