Bermuda were held to a 1-1 draw by the Cayman Islands as their World Cup qualifying campaign got underway at the National Sports Centre.

Cayman will be pleased to have come away with a draw and an away goal as Allean Grant scored the equaliser in the 86th minute for Cayman.

Tyrell Burgess gave Bermuda a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute as he latched on to a cross from the right from Kwame Steede just outside the box and smashed thje ball past goalkeeper Tuda Murphy.

But Bermuda failed to capitalise on chances to put the game away and Grant's equaliser came after Eric Brown won the ball deep in the Bermuda half and his cross was put away by Grant.

The second leg is in Cayman on March 30 with the Bermuda needing to win or to score in a draw to advance to the next round against Trinidad.
