Colts striker hurt in crash

Devonshire Colts striker Aljame Zuill has been ruled out of this weekend's pivotal clash against league leaders PHC Zebras after suffering injuries in a traffic accident on Wednesday night.

Zuill was reported on local radio to have suffered a broken leg but sources close to the club believe the 24-year-old's injuries were restricted to his face.

Colts, the FA Cup holders and beaten finalists in the Dudley Eve Trophy last season, need a point against PHC on Sunday to secure their place in the holiday tournament, which caters to the league's four leading clubs.

Zuill is the second leading footballer to fall victim to injuries away from the field, after Mark Ray, the Wolves midfield player, was involved in an accident as a pedestrian last month.

Ray, who is also a Bermuda cricketer, was flown overseas for evaluation as a result of head trauma, and is now recovering back on the Island.

The Dudley Eve competition begins on December 18 with a double-header under the lights at Devonshire Recreation Club. The first team will be eliminated in the second game of another double-header on December 23, at St. John's Field, with the final pairing decided on December 26 in a single match at Somerset Cricket Club. The two-leg final will be played on December 30 at Southampton Oval and January 1 at Wellington Oval.
