Kyme on the rise
Bermuda?s Nick Kyme recorded another impressive victory on the world squash tour earlier this week when he defeated the world?s 102nd ranked player, Jesse Engelbrach of Zimbabwe.
The 12-15, 15-9, 15-12, 15-6 win came in just over three-quarters of an hour at the Valkyere Open in Sea Breeze, New Jersey.
Despite being ranked some 50 places lower than his opponent and a somewhat slow start in the first game, 22-year-old Kyme dominated the match from there on, wearing his increasingly frustrated opponent down on hot and bouncy courts.
Kyme advanced to the final of the qualification round where he lost in straight games to Englishman Ben Howell, ranked number 84.
Even if the Bermudian does not qualify for the main draw of the tournament in Mexico City next Tuesday, which will mark the conclusion of a succession of tournaments that have kept him on the road for close to a month, Kyme now stands to gain at least 40 ranking places by the beginning of December.
With a world ranking of close to 120, he will gain entry to a greater number of higher status tournaments come the new year.
