Goater: ?I need more goals?

Shaun Goater admits that he needs to step it up a level when it comes to goalscoring, admitting that strike partner Nicky Forster is carrying the entire burden at present.

Goater, a doubt for Reading?s game on Saturday against West Bromwich Albion, was quoted by website www.icberkshire.co.uk yesterday as saying he was ?very disappointed? with his form since moving from Manchester City.

Goater, who has scored five times in 19 appearances, was quoted as saying: ?I think Nicky Forster has performed tremendously well but I haven?t reached the goal ratio level I?m used to so there?s plenty of room for improvement.

?I?m not performing to the levels I expect of myself and I?m very disappointed about it.

?I?ve thought long and hard about my performances because I know I can do so much better and I want the fans to know that too.

?But I realise that once I am at the right level my team-mates like Nicky will benefit.

?That?s why I think Nicky has done such a tremendous job because he?s been carrying all our goal threat on his own shoulders.?

Goater says he has had problems and says when they exist ?you must want to put it right and I certainly do?.

?You also have to enjoy playing in a team and that?s definitely the case here at Reading,? he said. ?The good thing is that this team hasn?t reached the levels it?s capable of.

?We?re in a moderate position and I?d rather my form come back at this time so that it could push us on to another level.

?Hopefully it will all click at the right time. That?s how things are in football.?

As for Saturday?s trip to West Bromwich Albion, Goater said he would not know until the 11th hour whether he would make it.

?It flared up after Millwall and I haven?t trained this week yet so I won?t know if I?m fit enough until (Friday), but I don?t want to push it too hard,? he said, adding: ?I?ll be gutted if I miss out because I feel my game is just coming back to me.?
