Goater and Reading to face Chelsea

Shaun Goater and Reading will have to overcome moneybags Chelsea if their dream of landing some silverware is not to fade.

The Bermudian striker's side were paired with the Claudio Ranieri's Blues after the latter saw off spirited Second Division outfit Notts County 4-2 in the fourth round at Stamford Bridge last night.

First Division Reading booked their place in the next round the night before when they defeated Third Division Huddersfield 1-0 at the Madejski Stadium.

Goater was on the bench for the second game running against the Terriers but will be champing at the bit to test himself against the Premiership high-fliers when the tie is played the week beginning December 1.

In a game that, on paper at least, promises goals, Reading manager Steve Coppell may have to be adventurous and opt for an attacking line-up. Chelsea spent over ?100-million this summer acquiring some of the cream of the world's crop, with Argentine hitman Hernan Crespo and Romanian Adrian Mutu the pick of the bunch.

Meanwhile, Goater's strike partner at Reading, Nicky Forster, has praised the contribution of the 33-year-old after coming on with 20 minutes to go against Huddersfield.

The game at that time was delicately balanced at 0-0 but Forster believes Goater helped tip it in Reading's favour.

"Goats definitely changed things when he came on," he said. "I couldn't shake (Huddersfield's Efe Sodje). It was crying out for another striker and I thought he did really well by changing things for us."
