Goater on target as reserves win

Shaun Goater pressed his claim for a place in Manchester City's starting line-up with the opening goal in the Blues' 2-1 reserve team victory over local rivals Bolton Wanderers last night.

Goater has only made one start for City this season, that coming in the Worthington Cup victory over Crewe a week ago.

City won 3-2 but Goater did not score and was replaced by Darren Huckerby with half an hour to go.

He was on the bench for Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Southampton but did not enter the fray, hence his inclusion last night.

Goater scored after 27 minutes with Huckerby doubling the lead after 32. Former Spurs striker Chris Armstrong pulled one back for Wanderers.

City's next game in the Premiership is not until October 19 when they take on Chelsea. They are currently 16th in the table on eight points.
