Southampton Rangers 1 Ireland Rangers 2

A first-half penalty miss by the returning Donnie Charles came back to haunt Southampton Rangers and spoil Meshach Wade's debut in a blue jersey.

New-look Southampton not only lost this opening match but also captain Jason Raynor, to a hard tackle by Jonathan Bean in the 31st minute.

After dominating from the start, Rangers should have capitalised when they were awarded an early penalty. But Charles made a hash of it, tamely placing the ball into the safe arms Ricardo Tucker.

Immediately the visitors made Southampton pay dearly for that miss and took the lead against the run of play with Bean opening his account with a firm low drive that carried across the outstretched arms of Southampton `keeper Gerald Simons.

Five minutes before the half Henry Santucci doubled the visitors' lead.

Although Southampton battled on bravely in the absence of Raynor, who had to be whisked away from the ground by ambulance with a suspected broken ankle, a late strike from Craig Darrell would only prove to be a consolation.

St. David's 2 St. George's 2

A late goal by Dennis Maynard saved St. George's from defeat against neighbours St. David's at Lord's yesterday. Maynard netted the equaliser right on 90 minutes to give the visitors a share of the points.

St. George's led 1-0 at the interval on a goal by Kenneth Butterfield after 31 minutes but they were unable to hold onto the slim lead in the second half which ended with a goal flurry.

Substitute Jabarie Furbert got the equaliser for St. David's after 75 minutes but the visitors had chance to re-establish their one-goal lead after 87 minutes when they were awarded a penalty. However, player-coach Neil Paynter could only watch in agony as goalkeeper George O'Brien stopped his shot.

Furbert then came up with the go-ahead goal after 89 minutes before, with time running out, Maynard saved the day for the visitors.

Social Club 4 Paget 0

Bottom of the First Division last season, Social Club began their season on a bright note, comfortably beating Paget at Bernard Park with two goals apiece from Lashun Dill and Renaldo Clacken.

Dill opened the scoring in the ninth minute before Clacken doubled that lead on the half hour. It stayed that way until the 75th minute when Dill provided the cross from the right for Clacken to make it 3-0 with a simple tap-in.

After substitute Mandel Outerbridge wasted a good chance to pull one back for Paget a minute later, Dill completed the scoring in the 77th minute with a lob over goalkeeper Wayne Smith.

Two players were booked, Jahma Charles of Social Club and Kenneth Outebridge of Paget.
