Victorious Clico eager to return

Clico Preysal?s first senior tour outside the Caribbean in 25 years has been dubbed a smashing success by former West Indies off spinner Rangy Nanan.

The touring Trinidad and Tobago Division One team left Bermuda early yesterday morning after recording a clean sweep of all opposition during their five-match tour.

And given Clico?s relatively youthful composition, club executive Nanan reckons money used to facilitate the tour was money well spent.

The former Test spinner gave the Island the thumbs up, and said he hoped his club could tour Bermuda again in the near future.

Nanan first visited Bermuda with Trinidad and Tobago?s national team in 1978 ? a team that also contained Bermuda?s current national cricket coach, Gus Logie.

Clico arrived on the Island with five team members under the age of 20.

?Some of these players have rarely travelled outside the Caribbean. They would usually go to Guyana or Barbados,? Nanan said yesterday from Miami.

?This was a different form of development for the players competing in a different island, under different conditions. and also getting the experience of travelling and so on.

?And for one of our guys (Miguel Nedd) this was actually the first time he had left the country (Trinidad).?

Nanan said it was important for his players to quickly adjust to the local playing conditions if they were to be successful.

?The pitches were a bit slow but they were able to adapt to them and they also had to adapt to playing most games under the lights,? he noted.

The Trinidadians played four of their five matches under floodlights.

?This is something they are not used to back home. At home you have to get into a final first in order to play under the lights,? Nanan explained.

?So this was another new experience for the players on tour and this was also part of their development.

?We would love to come back to Bermuda. We were well treated and the people were very friendly to us and the cab drivers were very, very nice and helped make our stay comfortable.

?The staff at Sandpiper were also very nice to us and so overall the tour was a success in the sense the people we met and the camaraderie we developed with the Bermudian people.

?The players we met were very friendly and it was quite nice to have dinner with them after Sunday?s match (at Somerset Cricket Club).?

During their stay, Clico defeated a Western Counties Select by 49 runs, a National XI by 85 and 71 runs, Premier Division champions Southampton Rangers by four wickets and a Somerset Cricket Club 20/20 XI by four wickets.

?I think the last game (against Somerset XI) was the best game we had,? Nanan said. ?They played very well and gave us a good fight.?
