Commitment the key to success, says Kyle

Kyle Lightbourne

Player commitment is the biggest obstacle facing Bermuda's soccer future, Kyle Lightbourne revealed.

In a brief departure from the relaxed atmosphere of yesterday's Press conference, new coach Lightbourne belied his laid-back approach with a stern warning for those who are chosen to play for him.

“Forget money, forget difficulties in organising matches, the biggest problem is player commitment - it's all a matter of player commitment,” said Lightbourne, who has helped facilitate recent trials for national players such as Khano Smith and Stephen Astwood in England.

“Players are going to want to have to play for Bermuda - that is how they are going to get selected and that is how they are going to get better.

“That is what we are expecting.

“When I was still playing as an amateur in Bermuda, I put in the hours of training on my own - I played football every day.

“There were a few of us who did that at PHC, that is why it was no fluke that we did so well. We want to see this from Bermuda's players.”
