Island players to remember the victims
While recent events in New York and Washington have virtually paralysed sporting events across the US, here in Bermuda the show goes on.
But respect will be shown during tonight's Martonmere Cup doubleheader at BAA Field with a minute's silence being observed out of respect to the victims, their families and all those affected by the tragic events of Tuesday morning.
The nightcap sees PHC in a battle for survival in Group A when they clash with North Village (9.00 p.m.), knowing that a loss will eliminate them, while a draw will not help much either.
Village are anxious for their first action of the season, and as one of the tournament favourites will want to show themselves deserving of the billing.
Represented will be a stark contrast in styles with PHC's all-out attacking system providing entertainment for the fans, although as shown on Tuesday evening this tactic often leaves their defence vulnerable, an aspect well exploited by Wolves who were able to score three times in the first-half before holding on for a 3-2 win.
Conversely, Village are renowned as a possession team, able to control and dictate tempo with their play from the back and in midfield.
However, the Red Devils have failed to identify a target player up front who can score goals with regularity and effectively close out opponents.
This evening's curtain-raiser features Devonshire Cougars and Dandy Town (7.00 p.m.) in a match-up of youth against experience.
Cougars represent the youth with Heys Wolffe and Raymond Beach the key cogs in attack, that combination presenting potentially serious threats to any defence - Wolffe with his feathery touch on the ball and Beach with his forcefulness and pace.
However, the boys from the Den are not all Wolffe and Beach, with a solid supporting cast having been assembled by player/coach Shawn Smith, the veteran sweeper and former Bermuda national team player.
Smith will be allowed to marshal his defence against an attack lacking the jaw-dropping pace of Carlos Smith, who is out with a knee injury, but will still have to contend with the likes of Darron (Duke) Simons, Town's leading scorer over the past three seasons.
Town, too, appear a well-rounded unit from back to front. With the experience of Devarr Boyles in midfield and captain Lionel Furbert at the back, not to mention Andrew Bascome patrolling the sidelines and their status as league champions, Town rank favourites going into this encounter.
Tomorrow sees women's action kick-off with two Konica Cup matches.
Robin Hood meet PHC at 1.00 p.m. and Hemisphere Royals take on Dandy Stars at 2.00 p.m., both games to be played at Shelly Bay.
However, what would have been the match of the day between defending champions Rude Girls and Prospect has been postponed.
