Manders avenges early season loss against Bascome
Gavin Manders retained his Argus Open crown by defeating Jenson Bascome at the WER Joell Tennis Stadium on Saturday.Manders’ 6-4, 6-3 win in the men’s open singles avenged his early season loss to Bascome in the final of the WER Joell Memorial Tournament.In the ladies’ open singles final, Cayla Cross claimed a 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 victory over Catherine Cooke; while Erwin Leader took the senior men’s singles title against Christopher Bardgett with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph.Bascome and Manders, who teamed up together to win a gold medal at the Island Games in the men’s doubles, beat Alex Cooper and Jack Keyes in the men’s doubles event.Sisters, Tara and Jackie Lambert were victorious in the ladies’ open doubles title against Cooke and Ciara Svenson.Bascome and Tara Lambert took the honours in the mixed doubles competition against Manders and Jackie Lambert.
