Women?s team crash out of Gold Cup
Bermuda's women's national football team were ousted from the final qualifying round of the 2006 CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup in Trinidad and Tobago on Friday night ? without netting a single goal.
Forty-eight hours after being trounced 7-0 by Jamaica, the Island's ladies were decisively beaten 5-0 by a physically superior Haiti to finish bottom of Group B.
The women's team were given a Gold Cup reprieve last July when they were reinstated into the competition despite being originally knocked out two months earlier.
An extra-time defeat to the Dominican Republic saw Bermuda dumped out of the tournament after the first qualifying stage.
However, CONCACAF's decision to re-organise the tournament paved the way for second-placed finishers from the last group stage, such as Bermuda, to compete in the second and final qualifying round against the likes of regional powerhouses Jamaica and Haiti.
Yet despite suffering crushing defeats in both outings, Bermuda coach Vance Brown reckons his team would have at least gained something from the experience.
"The team played much better tonight (Friday) and we can take a lot from this tour," he said.
