Goater plays key role in win
Shaun Goater's goal drought may have continued but the Bermudian played a crucial role in Manchester City's 2-1 victory over Watford yesterday.
Goater, who has only scored once in the past eight games, set up Paulo Wanchope for City's equaliser after Tommy Smith had put Gianluca Vialli's men in front in the First Division clash.
Danny Tiatto's ball found Goater who headed down to Wanchope, the Costa Rican hooking the ball home from close range.
Goater had earlier volleyed wide from 14 yards and shot over from inside the six yard box.
The game's key moment came towards the end of the match when Eyal Berkovic's through ball was turned into his own net by Heidar Helguson as he attempted a back pass to Watford goalkeeper Chamberlain.
City remain in top spot with 58 points, three ahead of second-placed Wolves.
Meanwhile, Kyle Lightbourne and Macclesfield Town were celebrating after a 1-0 victory over Swansea City in the Third Division. The striker, who has only just returned after overcoming a niggling ankle injury, went close when his shot was stopped by ‘keeper Roger Freestone's legs. Macclesfield's winning goal came from Chris Byrne in the 50th minute.
