No wonder they call him the Great Dane

Some characters are larger than life and our new goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel certainly fits that bill.

We face Aston Villa at Villa Park tonight and it's a match that will see Peter line up against the team he joined City from.

It was only a few weeks ago that ago that it looked like he would be out of action for two months after injuring his knee in a pre-season game against Preston, but he has defied the doctors and returned for our 1-0 win over Newcastle United on Saturday.

His appetite for the game is still as big as it ever was and that was evident yesterday in training.

Normally we strikers have about four goalkeepers who take it in turns to face shots from us.

Usually you take six or seven shots and that goalkeeper stands aside and you rotate with the next one.

I am not sure how many shots we had taken against Peter and the gaffer, Kevin Keegan, kept saying `switch the goalkeeper' and he would not switch until he had made a save. He kept saying `I'm not finishing having just let a goal in'.

All the other goalkeepers just had to stand there and wait until he was ready.

Anyone who knows Peter knows that he is not the kind of person you want to argue with and even the gaffer let him have his way.

I would imagine I will be on the bench tonight, as I was for the Newcastle game as I wouldn't expect the manager to change a winning team.

Certainly if I was one of the strikers who played at the weekend and I was told I wasn't playing tonight I would feel absolutely sick about it.

For me it is just a case of doing a little extra in training so that I am ready if and when the manager calls upon me.

The manager has said he believes we can be a top six side in the Premiership and certainly the belief will be there in the dressing room if we can a put a run together and that means beating Villa tonight.

Our win over Newcastle was excellent but we have to build on that and put on similar performances on a consistent basis.

Kevin Keegan is talking the talk, we the players have to walk the walk.
