Sims in fifth place finish
Although he finished the final round in a more than respectable fifth with a two-over-par 72 to pocket $2,457 Bermuda's Michael Sims admitted that Saturday's conclusion of the Blackstone National Open was somewhat frustrating, writes Colin Zuill.
The conditions, though a bit on the chilly side, were suitable for low scores but the local player was not able to get his game together.
After Friday's second round he claimed that he still was not in the comfort zone, and the trend continued in the final round when he struggled shortly after starting the back nine.
"I was one over on the front nine and then I three-putted the 11th to make a bogey and go two over, then I birdied the 17th and 18th to go back even to finish with a decent round,'' said Sims.
"I am still not quite there yet as far as my form is concerned. I am not hitting the ball well and my putting needs to be sharper too.
"It was a little frustrating on Saturday, the course didn't play terribly difficult, it was a good day for a low score but it didn't happen for me.''
The 23-year-old Bermudian finished with a three-round score of 212 and was tied for fifth place with three other players. The winner, Canadian Craig Matheson, finished with a 206 to claim $10,000.
Sims plays his next tournament tomorrow in New Hampshire before flying further west to Utah on Friday for a buy.com tournament there.
"The fact of the matter is that I need to improve on everything, little things need to be made here and there to my game and I just have to let it happen," he said as he analysed his performance.
"I have to feel things out and make sure that I just stop worrying about the technical side of things and let things work themselves out."
