Relegation fates to be decided at meeting
Whether Bailey?s Bay will be relegated from the limited overs Premier Division will become clear tomorrow night when the Bermuda Cricket Board meet to discuss Bay?s decision not to play their final game on Sunday.
Such was the closeness of the teams in the bottom half that Western Stars, Bay, Flatts, Warwick and Somerset were all relegation candidates going into the last round of fixtures.
And with Flatts registering a surprise win over St. David?s and Somerset thumping Warwick to send them down, Bay had to win against Western Stars at St. John?s Field to finish level on points with Somerset.
Relegation would then have been determined by who had the inferior run rate over the course of the season.
But on arrival at the ground in the morning, both Bay and Stars decided not to play their game with no umpires present, which was due to the well-documented late-season shortage.
The BCB told all clubs at the beginning of the season that in the event of no umpires being available, they should make ?every effort? to get the games played because there was simply not enough time for the matches to be rescheduled.
But it is understood that Bailey?s Bay want the game to be played at a later date and are upset at the prospect of being penalised for something which was beyond their control.
Four of the eight games across both divisions were not played on Sunday because of the same issue.
Nine umpires ? including the top four Roger Dill, Randy Butler, George Francis and Stephen Douglas ? are currently overseas.
Southampton Rangers were already crowned Premier Division champions over a week ago while St. George?s and Cleveland both secured promotion to the top tier.
