Minors fit to play

Concerns surrounding the health status of Bermuda?s premier wicketkeeper/batsman Dean Minors were laid to rest yesterday as team officials declared the veteran cricketer fit to play in Saturday?s ODI against Canada at Toronto Cricket Club.

Minors had grappled with a slight calf strain over the weekend, but hasn?t been bothered since after receiving treatment from team physiotherapist Craig Brown.

It is understood reports reached Bermuda claiming that Southampton Rangers wicketkeeper Kwame Tucker had flown to Toronto yesterday as a replacement for an injured Minors.

However, Bermuda coach Gus Logie set the record straight.

?We did have earlier concerns about Dean?s calf, and so we asked for Kwame to come earlier,? he explained.

?But Dean continues to improve and as far as Kwame is concerned he was always going to be a part of our set-up.?

Bermuda physiotherapist Craig Brown added: ?Dean received treatment for a tight calf muscle, but hasn?t been troubled by it since,? Brown added.

Both Tucker and fast bowler Stefan Kelly were scheduled to arrive in Toronto this week as replacements for OJ Pitcher and Delyone Borden.

Tucker is returning from a hamstring injury that ruled him out of Cup Match and Bermuda?s recently concluded ICC Intercontinental Cup match with Canada.

Bermuda have the day off today, but resume training early tomorrow morning at Toronto Cricket Club, venue for their two upcoming ODI against hosts Canada on Saturday and next Monday.
