Caza claims Open crown

Kevin Caza came out tops in the most senior event of the Minute Maid Junior Tournament yesterday, defeating Nicholas Butterfield in the boys? Open final 6-1, 6-2.

Despite the scoreline, the match appeared closely fought with Caza capitalising on the critical points to take the title.

In other finals action, Jack Keyes and Neal Towlson played the first of their two showdowns with Keyes winning their Under-14 battle 6-4, 6-3.

The two players will meet again in today?s Under-16 final.

In a close match, Keyes proved the steadier despite Towlson?s power shots.

Christopher Rego proved unstoppable as he took the boys? Under-10 title by beating Andrew Forgesson 8-6.

Forgesson, however, got a taste of victory when he teamed up with Rego to win the boys? Under-12 final over James Castroverde and Mackenzie Cooper, 6-2, 6-3.

Rego faces stiff competition today when he meets Jack Keyes in the boys? Under-12 final.

Visiting player Uki Deane from Buenos Aires in Argentina showed heart in a marathon boys? Under-16 consolation final yesterday, stretching Paul Simons to three sets before the latter clinched a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 victory.

The tournament winds up today with three finals at the WER Joell Stadium followed by the prizegiving at 3 p.m.
