Fisher king

Sasha Fisher continued her stampede through the Ladies A Singles event in the Argus Open Tennis Tournament.

The 18-year-old Blair Academy student devastated 14-year-old Saddlebrook Academy attendee Caitlin Gordon 6-1, 6-0. Fisher served with power and precision and attacked Gordon's serve to remain completely dominant throughout the match.

Men's B Singles top seed Frank Tersigni continued his winning streak, showing fitness and agility throughout his 6-1, 6-0 win over Dion Burgess. The match seemed closer than the score but Tersigni had no answers for Burgesses shots.

In the Mens A singles, John Johnston gave David Jenkins a scare in the second set when he took it 6-3, to equalise after losing the first 6-3. Jenkins clearly needed to move forward and finish the points at the net but Johnston managed to keep him on the back line. Finally, in the third set, Dave worked the kinks out of his game to win 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.

Number six seed, Ben Lau pulled off an upset over number four seed Paul Mosquera in the Mens B Singles quarter-finals in an incredible three hour, three-set thriller on court three.

Lau hit seemingly effortless deep and flat shots while Mosquera tried to respond with heavy spin and grunting. Mosquera tried to approach and volley but for the most part Lau came up with shots at his feet, too tough to get.

Mosquera, often on the ground after points, was noticeably getting frustrated with Lau's persistence and unbelievable gets. Lau chased down at least a dozen seemingly unreachable overheads, sprinted for drop shots and eventually won the match 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.

Matches in the Argus Open continue tonight at the W.E.R. Joell Stadium.
