Goater ready to train with Reading

Shaun Goater is all set to turn up for training with Reading on Tuesday, even though the club have made it clear they have no interest in playing him.

The former Man City talisman has been left on the sidelines since it was revealed the Championship club would have to pay City ?50,000 if Goater made one more appearance for them.

The club went public last year on their aim to buy Goater out of the remaining year of his contract, but have as yet made no agreement with the Bermudian striker.

?We are expected back next week and as I haven?t heard anything from the club to the contrary, I am going to turn up for training,? said Goater, who returned home to the Island to run his Grassroots Festival this summer.

?I am preparing for a season with Reading and unless I hear otherwise I will be there to fulfil my duties.?

English newspapers have reported a number of rumours about clubs interested in taking the out-of-favour striker, most of them from the lower leagues, but nothing has come to fruition with Goater dismissing many of the claims as ?just paper talk?.

Goater has admitted his last season with Reading was the worst of his career after failing to score a league goal in a campaign ruined by an untimely injury and then the revelations over his contract.

He remains resolute, however, to fulfil his contract with Reading and play his final year of football before retiring.

Khano Smith was dropped to the bench for New England Revolution?s return to winning ways against Columbus Crew last night.

The former Dandy Town player, who has enjoyed a run in the starting line-up for the Major League Soccer team due to an injury to striker Taylor Twellman, came on as substitute in the 53rd minute at the Columbus Crew Stadium, replacing Connally Edozien.

Smith failed to score, although did manage to pick up the second booking of his Revs career with a 72nd minute foul in the 3-1 victory.
