Curtains will close on the Onion Patch Series tomorrow when the final two yacht races in the five-race competition take place in Great Sound.

Thirty-five boats will compete for individual and team honours as the series finishes with two races held under the auspices of the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club. The results from these events will be added to those from the Newport-Bermuda Race and the results from two races held by the New York Yacht Club two weeks to determine the overall Onion Patch winners.

At present, Rush - a Swan 45 owned by Tom Stark - leads the individual standings with 17 points while Idler is second on 20.2 points and Temptress, third on 23.2 points. Bermudian Kirk Cooper is among the latter boat's crew.

In the team event, the New York Yacht Club's red team of Aura, Temptress and Idler lead with 80.8 points while Storm Trysail's white team of Blue Yankee, Goldigger and Orion are in hot pursuit on 105.2 points. Third is the New York Yacht Club's blue team - Bright Star, Cygnette and Harrier on 115.8 points.

The first race will start at 11 a.m. and the second race will take place in the afternoon. The prize presentation for tomorrow's races will be held at Barr's Park later that evening while the prize presentations for the Onion Patch Series and the Newport-Bermuda Race take place at Government House on Saturday night.

Meanwhile, as of 5 p.m. yesterday, only three of the 174 boats in the Newport-Bermuda Race were still to cross the finish line. They were Avatar, Feo and Seastar.
