Batsman Brangman keeps it in the family

Apparently, veteran batsman Ricky Brangman wasn't the only one in the household busy out in the middle on Sunday as his three sons also featured in a losing cause for Devonshire Rec.

While the senior Brangman - who patiently posted an unbeaten 81- was at Somerset Cricket Club guiding Rangers to a nail-biting two wicket victory over the home team, 15-year-old Derek was also in the thick of it at Devonshire Rec, carving his way through PHC's batting order to seize five wickets for 53 runs, though in a losing cause.

Derek's other siblings, Ricardo (22) scored 12 runs while Lamont the youngest of the trio at 14, also took one wicket - albeit at a cost of 42 runs.

In an uncertain world, one certainty is the fact that the Brangman name will be around long after veteran Ricky decides to call it quits at the end of this season.

"That's why this will be my last season because I intend on spending more time with them (my sons)," said Brangman.

"They came up through the ranks at Western Stars under Arnold Manders playing for Pembroke in the Parish Youth League.

"Now that they are a bit older they have chosen to play for the Rec. but they practically grew up at Stars, living on St.John's Road."

The trio are also first cousins to former Stars' stalwarts Gary and Allen Brangman, while Ricardo is also a member of Devonshire Cougars, featuring in goal for the 2001/02 Martonmere Cup champions.
