Wilson takes over the reins at Wolves
Leroy (Curly Joe) Wilson has been chosen as Dennis Brown's successor at Wolves.
Amid growing speculation that Wilson - an assistant to Andrew Bascome last season at Dandy Town - would succeed Bascome at the St.John's Road club, the veteran has decided instead to move on.
Wilson coached Town in 1985 after Danny Seymour decided to hand over the reins and has also enjoyed stints as both a soccer official and coach of women's team Hemisphere Royals.
Earlier this year Wilson also assisted a local youth team in Kingston, Jamaica.
He now takes over the reins at the Devonshire club in the wake of former coach Brown's decision to step down and concentrate solely on the development of the club's several youth programmes.
Club spokesman, and assistant to Brown last season Kirk (Dasher) Douglas confirmed that the former Town stalwart had landed the job of resurrecting Wolves' senior programme following their relegation.
"Curly Joe was officially chosen as coach for next season," he confirmed.
"Actually, he was helping Dennis and myself out all last season as far as training the fellows and they respect him and feel comfortable with him.
"That's why we decided to approach him."
It is also understood that Herbie Bascome, and more surprisingly former Southampton Rangers stalwart John Tucker were among those considered.
Meanwhile, Douglas also pointed out that thus far only Nakia Smith has opted to transfer and that the club's short term goal for next season is to pick up the pieces and make a speedy return to top flight soccer.
Ironically, Smith, the son of Wilson, is moving on while his father is coming onboard.
Speculation is mounting that Smith will suit up for newly promoted Somerset Eagles next season. Meanwhile, striker Khari Sharrieff has said that he will be concentrating solely on continuing his education.
