Big guns on track at Open
The big names of Bermuda tennis are dominating the annual Island Construction Open tennis tournament at Pomander Gate.
In Men's A singles, number one seed Andy Bray saw off a spirited challenge from number six seed Michael Way, booking his passage into tomorrow's final 6-2, 7-5. He will face either number three seed Ben Ureta or number two seed James Collieson.
The latter withstood a three-set marathon against Jenson Bascome, disposing of the number five seed 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 while Ureta brushed aside David Thomas 6-4, 6-2.
The Ladies' A singles semi-finals pit top seed Ashley Brooks against Liz Osborne and number three seed Morgan Lightbourne against unseeded youngster Cayla Cross.
Zarah DeSilva's withdrawal - after the number two seed suffered a "turf toe" injury - was a big disappointment.
In Men's A doubles, the veteran duo of Roger Marshall and Mark Cordeiro have impressed and justified their number-two seeding. They reached the final by ousting Will Fawcett and Coleridge Place 6-3, 6-1 on Wednesday night.
Now, they face stiff competition from either of the other two semi-finalists, top seeds Andy Bray and James Collieson or Gavin Manders and David Thomas.
The tournament concludes tomorrow morning with the Ladies A and Men's A singles finals at 9.30 a.m. followed by the Ladies A and Men's A doubles at 1 p.m.
The Mixed Doubles finals will be played this evening at 6.00.
