Zimbabwe sound warning

Bermuda can advance to this Saturday?s One-Day International Tri-Series final by defeating Canada today ? regardless of their result against Zimbabwe tomorrow.

The Canadians, rusty from a winter of inactivity, were bundled out for just 75 as they suffered a 143-run mauling by the Zimbabweans in the opening series match at the Queen?s Park Oval in Trinidad yesterday.

And that result means they have to defeat Bermuda today to have any chance of making the final. Bermuda, on the other hand, will advance if they inflict a second straight defeat on the Canadians.

After opener Piet Rinke hammered 72 to lead Zimbabwe to a respectable 218 for eight in their 50 overs, Canada quickly crumbled in reply.

Star batsman Jon Davison, who opened the innings, was run out for just one and matters quickly deteriorated as wickets fell at regular intervals.

Ashish Bagai topped the batting with just 16 while Sunil Dhaniram made 14 and Haninder Dhillon 13. Three of Canada?s top five batsmen were run out.

Tawinda Mupariwa was the best of the Zimbabwe bowlers, snapping up three for 30 in his ten overs while Blessing Mahwire claimed two for 21 off six.

Canada were dismissed in 28.5 overs.

Besides Rinke, Zimbabwe got useful contributions from Chamu Chibhabha and Brendan Taylor who both made 37. Elton Chigumbura chipped in with 22.
