Seven national team cricketers are on the verge of signing a two-year deal with top English cricket manufacturers Slazenger, The Royal Gazette can reveal.

For the next two years Kwame Tucker, Azeem Pitcher, Daniel Morgan, Saleem Mukuddem, OJ Pitcher, Delyone Borden and Stephen Bremar jr will all be fully kitted with Slazenger cricket gear and accessories.

"We are in the process of negotiating with the players and we will be making an announcement very shortly," Slazenger business development director Neil Petal said last night just before returning to the UK.

According to group spokesperson Morgan, the players have already sought legal advice and are awaiting final approval from Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) before putting pen to paper.

Morgan said the last thing his colleagues wanted was to breach conditions of an already signed semi-pro contract.

Only last month national team all-rounder Lionel Cann signed an undisclosed sponsorship deal with Trinidadian sports merchants, RSW, who specialise in Indian cricket gear.

"One of our representatives had actually written to Slazenger sometime ago to basically see what opportunities there might be for some sponsorship deals," Morgan explained.

"At the moment we have a contract (draft) that were are looking at with our legal advisors and obviously it will have to be run past the Board to make sure there isn't any conflict of interest," Morgan added.

Slazenger manufacture a wide range of cricketing equipment, including bats and protective gear which many of today's top cricketers make their brand of choice.

The local cricketers are expected to sign on the dotted line later this week.

"Hopefully everything will be ironed out and everyone is happy and we can go forward and sign the deal," added Morgan.
