Goater?s future up in the air
Shaun Goater?s loan side Coventry City raced to an emotional 6-2 victory over Derby on Saturday in the last ever game at Highfield Road while also securing Championship safety.
But Goater, who has made four starts for the Sky Blues since moving on loan from Reading for the remainder of the season, was an unused substitute as Micky Adams? men romped to survival with one game still left.
With Coventry having hired Goater to help try and stave off relegation and safety now achieved, the Bermudian?s season may now be over even though there is still an away game at Crewe to be played.
Despite his four starts for the side, Goater, yet to score a league goal this season, was unable to fashion even one goalscoring opportunity and appears unlikely to be signed on by the club for next season.
That will leave him to return to Reading for negotiations which may well see him leave the club a year before his contract expires, with management at the Madejski Stadium already hinting that they will be looking to buy Goater, one of the club?s biggest wage earners, out of his contract.
Fellow Island internationals Damon Ming and John Barry Nusum also suffered bad weekends at the office.
Rookie Nusum was a goalscorer in the Major Indoor Soccer League?s play-off semi-final between Philadelphia KiXX and Cleveland Force, but his side went down 6-3 in the first leg ? the second leg was being played late last night.
Ming, who has played on the fringes of Conference South side Maidenhead United in the latter stages of the season, may now have to look elsewhere for a good standard of football after his side were relegated on the last day of the season and are now wallowing three divisions below professional level.
New England Revolution, who striker Khano Smith will link up with on Wednesday, remain top of the Eastern Conference standings after a 1-0 victory over new Major League Soccer side CD Chivas USA.
