Swimmers off to slow start

Bermuda's first competitors in the Melbourne Commonwealth Games were in action at the Aquatic Centre early Thursday morning.

Michael O'Connor finished his 50 metre backstroke heat in 29.06 seconds to finish 6th out of 7 while 25-year-old Ronald Cowen finished last in his 400 metre freestyle heat out of six competitors.

In men's singles squash, also taking place on the first morning of competition in Melbourne, Nick Kyme was due to take on Chikumbutso Mkutumula of Malawi, while James Stout was due to play Kenyan Joseph Karigthe.
