World champs here in October

The International Sailing Federation (ISAF) and The Royal Bermuda Yacht Club have rescheduled the ISAF Women?s Match Racing World Championship until October.

Originally slated for June, the regatta has been put back to coincide with the annual King Edward VII Gold Cup and will therefore now take place October 15-18, prior to the Gold Cup.

The International Women?s Match Racing Championship which usually takes place right before the Bermuda Gold Cup will therefore be replaced by the Women?s Match Racing World Championship.

Historically the first and second-placed competitors in the former event have received automatic entry to the Gold Cup and this right will be transferred to the first and second-placed finishers in the ISAF Women?s Match Racing World Championship.

?For the past three years, the winner and runner-up of our International Women?s Match Racing Championship have gone on to sail against some of the world?s best match-racing sailors in the Gold Cup and 2005 will be no exception,? said RBYC Vice-Commodore Andrew Cox.

?The addition of the ISAF Women?s Match Racing World Championship into the mix will make this one of the best week?s of world-class match racing in 2005.?

Racing for the Women?s Match Racing World Championship will be held off the RBYC marina in Hamilton Harbour.
