National team bowlers to be withdrawn from this year?s Cup Match
Cup Match this summer looks set to be without the services of some of the Island?s leading seam bowlers.
The national team leave for a long and important tour of Canada the day after the Classic which ends on Friday, August 4 and national coach Gus Logie has recommended to his employers that all of the seam bowlers selected in the 14-man squad be made unavailable for Cup Match selection.
Allrounders such as Saleem Mukuddem and Lionel Cann will be allowed to play, but only as batsman while the other national team batsman and wicketkeepers will also be permitted to take part if selected.
Logie said yesterday that he recognised the importance of Cup Match to Bermuda and did not want to trample on the value of such a cherished tradition.
But he is very concerned about the condition his frontline bowlers could be in following two hot and pressure-filled days in the field on the eve of their trip to Toronto.
Those in line for a national team place as well as a Cup Match berth include the likes of Kevin Hurdle, Jacobi Robinson, Ryan Steede. George O?Brien Jr. and Stefan Kelly.
