Patrick under the knife

Basketball star David Patrick went under the knife earlier this week in a bid to correct a season-ending injury.

The Bermudian guard, who plays with the Canberra Cannons in the Australian National Basketball League, tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee against the Townsville Crocodiles two weeks ago.

Patrick flew to Melbourne on Sunday to consult with Dr. David Young, a surgeon who has previously operated on Victoria Titans' star Jason Smith, who suffered a similar injury.

"The prognosis prior to the operation for a full recovery was good with Dr. Young confident that following surgery Patrick would be back on the basketball court completely rehabilitated within six months," said Cannons' spokeswoman Melinda Healy.

Healy said details of the success of the surgical procedure as well as a prognosis for recovery would be provided as soon as it was known.

Without Patrick, the Cannons put on a good showing against the Victoria Titans in Ballarat on Wednesday night making their opponents earn their 102-89 round 15 victory.
