Storm delays runners? arrival

Yesterday?s appalling weather played havoc with the athletes? schedules with seven of this weekend?s runners hit by flight cancellations.

Half-marathon competitors Anna Pichrtova, Wilson Komen, Joseph Mutinga and 10K athletes Galina Alexandrova and David Maritim were all stuck in the US overnight while, more pressingly, Bermudian Terrance Armstrong, who was due to fly in for the Mile only yesterday due to work commitments, was also stranded.

But Armstrong, who along with Michael Donawa will be fighting for the Island in tonight?s race, will definitely take part, with his family confirming his entry and collecting his race number from officials yesterday.

Leonard Mucheru, a Kenyan former winner of the Mile, was making his own travel plans and is thought to be stuck in the US with Armstrong ? he is also expected in today.

Russians Fedor Ryzhov and half-marathon defending champion Dmitry Maximov flew in on the British Airways flight last night which touched down safely despite fears it may have to be diverted to Tampa.
