Dear sir,

I constantly hear and read negative comments about Bermuda football, particularly concerning the discipline of today's players.

I attended the first leg of the Dudley Eve final on December 30 between Wolves and PHC and what I saw prompted me to write to you.

I saw a well-officiated game played hard, yet in a very good spirit, with no shortage of skill displayed.

Despite a demoralising scoreline, PHC continued trying and played attractive football to the end, only denied by an excellent goalkeeping display by Corby Durrant.

Congratulations to Mark Wade and Bulla Anderson for instilling that spirit in their young team. Stephen Astwood and Dano Outerbridge particularly impressed me.

There was no doubt, however, who the better team was and it is nice to see Wolves winning trophies after so many years in the doldrums. An enormous amount of credit needs to go to Dennis Brown and Dasher Douglas for resurrecting a club which has always had loyal members and supporters.

It was good to see old friends such as Dion Wainwright and Keith DeShields so happy after the final whistle. As well as Corby, Beaver Ray, Nakia Smith, Jared Peniston, Tori Davis and of course John Barry Nusum were standouts.

The Wolves players now need to learn the lesson from last year, that winning a trophy mid-season doesn't guarantee success for the rest of the season. They also will have to do without John Barry, who showed the rest of the players the composure all good finishers have.

John Barry definitely has the right tools to make it in England. He is the best I've seen since Shaun Goater.
