A report in last Thursday's paper mistakenly said that Bermudians heading to the United States will need a machine-readable passport from October 1 or else will must get a visa.
Bermudians do not need the machine readable passport but citizens from 27 countries in the visa waiver programme do before the October 1 deadline.
They are Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK.
Machine readable passports have two lines of characters on the foot of the data page with the name, number and code. US authorities are requiring the modern passports to reduce queues.
Citizens of Visa Waiver Program Countries without machine readable passports can apply to the US Consulate for a visa.
