Dear Sir,

May we through your columns express our grateful "Thanks" to the people of Bermuda for their generous contribution of used eye glasses and hearing aids.

As you well know, we collect used eye glasses and hearing aids as a continuing programme to assist in those areas of the world where a pair of glasses or a hearing aid is the difference between being able to see and hear clearly.

From June,2001, until June 14, 2002, a total of 1,300 pairs of used eye glasses have been collected and shipped to the depot of our district in Nassau County, Long Island, New York.

Last year it was 2,300 pairs and the year 2000 we sent up 2,400 pairs.

These glasses along with many thousands more are recycled and distributed to those areas of the world where people in great need of glasses are supplied through the humanitarian arm of Lions Club International.

It can safely be said that at least 1,300 people somewhere in the world will benefit from the generosity of the people of Bermuda in providing these glasses.

It is our great pleasure to be the channel through which this terrific humanitarian service is provided and we say a grateful "Thank You" to all who have assisted i.e. the Banks, the Post Offices, the Lions and Lionesses who have collected and others too numerous to mention.

We look forward to Bermudas continued support in this and any other undertaking that we perform for the benefit of mankind and in particular those less fortunate than ourselves.
