Christmas cheer carried over into January as the Pembroke Rotary Club announced the winners of the 2019 Christmas Essay Competition.

The annual contest has run for the past four years, and is open to both public and private schools at the primary, middle and senior levels.

The contest was chaired by Shangri-La Durham-Thompson on behalf of club president Granville Nusum.

The winning students were announced as Ava Chloe Simons of Harrington Sound Primary School, with Esther Jeremy of Prospect Primary getting honourable mention.

Julie Elliot won the middle school category, with Liana Franco receiving honourable mention. Both students are from Mount Saint Agnes Academy.

Anaya Minors of the Berkeley Institute won at the senior school level, with Gabriel Todd of Warwick Academy receiving honourable mention.

The essays were judged by club member Gary Edwards, retired teacher Annette Boyle, and Levyette Robinson, a foreign languages officer at the Department of Education.
