Cops note man was drunk ? then later see him driving

Police caught a drink driver at the wheel of his car ? on the same evening they had spotted him drunk in a nightclub and at a fast-food restaurant.

Officers stopped Jamie Ford, 26, after they saw him swerve his vehicle in South Road, Paget, at about 3.40 a.m. on Monday, November 6, Magistrates Court was told yesterday.

They noticed Ford's eyes were glazed and he swayed from side to side as he attempted to walk away from his car, Crown counsel Carrington Mahoney said.

The court was told it was the third time that evening Police had seen Ford ? and on each occasion he had appeared drunk.

Yesterday, Ford, from Tribe Road No.5, Warwick, pleaded guilty to driving while impaired through alcohol.

In the early hours of the morning in question, Police had spoken to Ford when they called at a nightclub following reports of a disturbance.

Mr. Mahoney told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner: "Officers spoke to the defendant on another matter ? not related to this case. They noticed his eyes were glazed and he appeared to be intoxicated."

A short while later, officers were on another unrelated matter at a fast-food restaurant in Paget.

"He (Ford) was there again, still intoxicated," said Mr. Mahoney.

The lawyer continued: "At 3.39 a.m. on the same day, officers sat in a motor car and saw a car swerve from side to side. They stopped the car and spoke to the defendant."

Mr. Mahoney said they suspected Ford was intoxicated, and asked him if he had been drinking. He told them he had four drinks but was not drunk.

Mr. Warner fined Ford $1,000 and disqualified him from driving for a year.
