Somerset Police station was evacuated for two hours yesterday afternoon following a bomb scare.

Officers cleared the station after receiving a telephone call at 1.45 p.m. which said a bomb would go off at 2 p.m.

But a thorough search of the office by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team found no trace of a bomb and the station was declared safe at 4.10 p.m.

Police spokesman Dwayne Caines last night condemned the hoaxer and warned he or she would would be dealt with severely if caught.

"In this day and age when national security is taken so seriously, we take these things very seriously and we have a full complement of officers investigating the call," he said.

"We would want to dissuade who thinks this is funny or a prank that it is not and it will be dealt with according to the full weight of the law."
