Ticketing bill passes third reading

A new law which will allow traffic wardens to issue on-the-spot tickets to motorists for offences including speeding passed its third reading in the House of Assembly on Friday.

Opposition MP John Barritt questioned whether traffic wardens had the right training for the new powers they will enjoy under the Traffic Offences Procedure Amendment Act 2006.

But Premier Ewart Brown told the House: ?These are professionals and every step will be taken by this Government to protect our professionals. ?They will be able to issue tickets for speeding in conjunction with Police officers.

?These are professionals and they will conduct themselves in such a way as to minimise injury or exposure to themselves.?
