Free for February at National Museum
A range of activities will be offered this month as part of the National Museum of Bermuda’s Free for February event.
A spokeswoman said that the annual event had a new twist this year.
She explained: “This year NMB is excited to offer free activities for all visitors on each Saturday of the month.”
The spokeswoman said the event was “a unique opportunity to experience the museum in new ways, learn a new skill or craft, connect with our past and engage with people from the community”.
Ronnie Chameau, a local artist, will conduct a workshop on palmetto weaving and discuss women and work in the 17th and 18th centuries.
Bermudian author and storyteller Florenz Maxwell will read from two of her books — “The Spirit Baby” — a collection of Bermudian tales — and the award-winning “Girlcott”, based around the 1959 Theatre Boycott that helped end segregation in Bermuda.
AB Wilson, a self-taught photographer, will lead tours through the museum and highlight details of the grounds, as well as historic objects and buildings.
Marla Smith of the Bermuda National Library will read excerpts from “The Story of the Bermuda Cedar Tree” by Kevin Stevenson, as well as other stories.
Her colleague Ellen Hollis will run a workshop on genealogy and Bermuda family history.
Lisa Wingood, a yoga teacher, will demonstrate chair yoga techniques.
A scavenger hunt for children around the museum grounds is also planned and people can enter a draw for free family membership to the museum.
The NMB is open seven days a week from 10am to 5pm.
