Police raid social clubs

Police made a number of arrests and seized what is believed to be cocaine and cannabis during raids at three social clubs on Saturday night.

Police said yesterday that a "session" was taking place at White Hill Field and that officers could not get in because the bar door was padlocked from the outside.

Officers were forced to wait and were eventually let into the bar when someone opened the door for them.

A number of men were arrested and two violently resisted arrest when officers finally got into the club, Police said. Quantities of what is thought to be cannabis were seized in the raid.

The White Hill Field incident, and raids at Hamilton Parish Workmen's Club and Southampton Rangers where drugs were also allegedly found, will be reported to the Liquor Licensing Authority.

The Authority has the power to revoke the clubs' liquor licenses of they are in breach of their licence conditions.

Police Support Unit officers seized what is believed to cannabis at Hamilton Parish Workman's Club and arrested two men on outstanding warrants.

And what is thought to be cocaine and cannabis were found at Southampton Rangers Club where a man was arrested in connection with an outstanding warrant, Police said. The clubs or alleged drug dealers could face harsh penalties because clubs are increased penalty zones attracting higher fines than elsewhere.
