Assault victim in fight for his life

Police are hoping Pembroke residents can piece together the last movements of a 46-year-old man who is fighting for his life after he was brutally attacked on Monday night.

The man, who is originally thought to be from Dominica, was in the Intensive Care Unit of King Edward Memorial Hospital last night in a "poor, critical condition" with head injuries.

It is understood when the Pembroke resident was found around 7 p.m. on Monday on the corner of Glebe Road and Orchard Road, a member of the public who called an ambulance thought he had been involved in an accident.

It was only when he was rushed to hospital that doctors called Police because they knew the man had been attacked.

Police spokesman Dwayne Caines said yesterday: "The man is classed as being in a poor, critical condition, which typically means he is fighting for his life.

"He has very serious head trauma and the prognosis does not look very promising. Bermuda Police is taking this investigation very seriously.

"The indications are that this man was assaulted, but the details are still sketchy. We are asking members of the public in that area who may have noticed anything, a scuffle or people having a fight, to come forward to Police.

"We are trying to build up a case and get preliminary information that will give us some pointers as to what happened.

"There is nothing to suggest weapons were used, but we have not ruled weapons out."
