Devonshire man fined for driving while impaired

A Devonshire man was fined $1,000 for driving while impaired after an accident which left his female cycle passenger bleeding on the sidewalk. Paramedics attended an accident of August 25 on Harrington Sound Road where they found John Martin, 24, of Brimstone Hill, and a female ?lying on her back bleeding profusely from her head?, Magistrates? Court heard last week.

The two were taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where Police spoke to Martin, whose ?eyes were glazed and breath smelled of intoxicants?, Crown counsel Shakira Dill said in Magistrates? Court. He told Police he had ?a few drinks? but refused a breath test.

?I?m sorry for being here and I?m sorry for wasting the court?s time,? said Martin before Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves fined him $1,000 and disqualified him from driving all vehicles for 12 months.
