Petrol bomb incident during Halloween trouble

Hooligans threw a petrol bomb at Somerset Police Station last night and three youths were arrested in Paget as Halloween was marred by typical outbreaks of violence.

Police reported 45 incidents of egg and rock throwing at locations throughout the Island at press time last night, and in Duck's Puddle, Hamilton Parish, the back windscreen of a car was smashed.

But Police spokesman Dwayne Caines said the incidents were "typical Halloween ant-social" behaviour and nothing Police had not dealt with before.

Potentially the most serious incident took place at 8.15 p.m. when youths threw a plastic bottle containing flammable liquid at Somerset Police Station, but it did not explode.

"Very luckily it did not ignite but it could have been very dangerous. A petrol bomb was thrown at St. George's Police Station earlier this year, so it is not something we haven't seen before in Bermuda," said Mr. Caines.

Police also had to deal with youths throwing bottles at St. David's Road, St. David's, and a "minor disturbance" at Court Street when youths were throwing eggs and rocks.

"There are no major incidents. There have been about 45 cases of juveniles being mischievous, and common or garden egging incidents.

"I would say this was the typical anti-social hooligan behaviour for Halloween. There is nothing out the scope of what we can normally deal with and what we've seen in the past."
