Red Cross disaster funds top $325,000
The Bermuda Red Cross has received more than $325,272.16 in donations for its three major appeals ? the Pakistan Earthquake Appeal, Hurricane Katrina Appeal and the West Africa Crisis Appeal.
The Hurricane Katrina Appeal has received $224,717.16, the Pakistan Earthquake Appeal, $30,555 and the West Africa Crisis Appeal has received $70,000.
Red Cross Administrator, Helen Wicks said the organisation had seen a marked increase in public support for the victims of the Pakistan Earthquake with funds nearly quadrupling.
She said relief workers from both the Red Cross and the Red Crescent continue to work against the clock to deliver aid to survivors of the earthquake in Pakistan before winter sets in.
The Bermuda Red Cross is asking all of Bermuda to support this appeal to assist those suffering in Pakistan and donations can be made by debit/credit card over the phone at 236-8253, or by cheque in the mail to Bermuda Red Cross Pakistan Earthquake Appeal, Charleswood, 9 Berry Hill Road, Paget DV03.
Alternatively money can be deposited directly to the following accounts: Bank of Bermuda 701-48348, or Butterfield Bank 20-006-060-365472-200.Meanwhile the death toll continues to rise with as many as 75,000 people feared dead, up to 70,000 injured and up to three million homeless.
In total, the British Red Cross has sent out ten delegates to the worst hit areas, including four logisticians to help with the reception and distribution of emergency relief supplies, a water and sanitation expert, two health experts, an anaesthetist and a tracing delegate to work with the ICRC operation.
