Deal with Munich Airlines ?a possibility?
Munich Airlines are interested in operating a direct service to Bermuda from spring next year.
Tourism and Telecommunications Minister Renee Webb yesterday said that the new flight to the Island was merely being muted at the moment, but was something her department was watching closely.
At a press conference about the Ministry?s new marketing plan, she said although her department was keen to particularly push the UK holiday market, it would be keeping a close eye on other parts of Europe, too.
?Munich Airlines is looking at the possibility of flying to Bermuda from next March, three times a week,? she said.
?If that comes to fruition, then we will spend some dollars in marketing (in that area).?
She said Government was looking at the possibility of bringing in competition to British Airways, which is the only direct flier from and to the UK, and was keen to make the Island even more accessible to tourists in Europe.
She added: ?The European market is being honed, but even so we will concentrate more on the UK.?
Last night Transport Minister Dr. Ewart Brown admitted that some talks between Bermuda and Munich Airlines had taken place, but he said details were far from settled.
?As far as I know, our people are looking at it, but we have not received any commitment from them yet. It?s a possibility, though,? he said.
